Report | Reading 2-1 Swansea City. By Reading FC. Share.
Tom Ince scored his 100th club career goal after scoring the winner in Reading FC's 2-1 win against Swansea City at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on ...
We at times don’t make the games easy for ourselves but what we’ve got is fight and desire and people to put their bodies on the line and a sprinkle of quality throughout the team. “Luckily it was right at the end and it didn’t really matter not putting it in. “As I’ve ran I’ve gone to hit it with my left foot but scuffed the floor. It was a massive game tonight from where both teams were in the league. “It’s not about my goal tonight, it was about the three points. Liam Cullen pulled a goal back for Swans in the 71st minute, but Royals managed to hold on to claim all three points that would lift them into the top-half of the Championship table. “In all fairness, Swansea are very good possession-based side who move the ball really well. I think that’s what defines us, that’s what defines how we are. But Royals would double their lead early in the second-half. “I think I’ve realised that old age hits you quicker than you think,” joked Ince. “This was a tough game and as soon as the ball bounced to me I thought, 'open net' but the goal just seemed so far away. The ball landed at Ince’s feet but the Royals forward was stopped from adding a third after Ryan Manning got back in time to make the tackle.
The gaffer praised yet another home win for the Royals, but pointed out that there's plenty of room for improvement.
“Aesthetically you look at the side now and it gives you a bit more of a buzz. “He’s a player that has played in the Premier League and represented some of the best teams in the country, so to have him at our club, in our team and our changing room… You’ve got to hit the target, you’ve got to score. “It’s madness, and I don’t know what the answer is. “Thomas is a top player and he’s so important to this football club. But now we have to go to Norwich and West Brom and we’ll see what we can get from those two tough away games.” “They had a free header with three minutes to go - we make a silly foul because we were panicking and we put pressure on our goal at times because we panicked. So we rode our luck at times and it could have gone the other way. “They came at us in the second half and when they get one back, you start thinking about what happened at their place and they won 3-2. And we’ve got to get used to winning games and feeling comfortable when we are in a winning position. And eventually, you just have to accept they’re not going to do it, you cross your fingers and hope they are going to come away with the result. We want to win and then move on to the next one.
Reading notched in each half to beat Swansea City 2-1 in the final home match of the season.
Aesthetically you look at the side now and it gives you a bit more of a buzz. It’s a massive win for us but we’ve got to be calm about it and move onto the next game. I think when you sit down in June or July and think you have the right man, and come September, you sack him, I don’t think that’s right. He gives his all and he’s one we’re lucky to have because he can play in lots of different positions. You’ve got to hit the target, you’ve got to score. It's great to win in front of our fans but we have to think about moving onto the next game. It was chaotic football and that’s not good for a manager of my age that’s for sure. It means a lot to the players but that’s half the problem. We’ve got to get used to winning games and feeling comfortable when we’re in a winning position. All of a sudden you could sense it and feel it and know what’s going to happen. You try to get them up the park and they just don’t move. We have to be braver and get higher.
The Royals went two goals ahead with goals from Andy Carroll and Tom Ince despite a missed penalty from Yakou Meite. The win means that Reading climb up to ...
“Luckily for us we managed to hold on. You can’t allow people to have free headers in the six yard. “It put pressure on our goal and at times we rode our luck in the second-half. “Even if we scored the penalty I wouldn’t have felt comfortable after what happened at the Liberty Stadium where we were 2-0 up and then lost 3-2. We were defending deep and they had a free header three minutes into injury time. “I’m delighted that’s three out of four we’ve won.
Goals from Andy Carroll and Tom Ince proved to be the difference in the end as Reading secured an important 2-1 victory over Swansea City last night.
This nearly paid dividends at the end of yesterday’s game when Ince Jr nearly put the ball into an empty net – and with their back five able to soak up pressure – they may use a similar approach throughout this term. However, they have somehow managed to hold on to quite a few points by sitting deep and you feel they will continue to do this and attempt to hit teams on the break. They may have been lucky not to concede in stoppage time via a Harry Darling header – but they kept the ball out of the net during the closing stages of the game and that’s all that matters. Liam Cullen pulled one back for the away side with less than 20 minutes to go following some poor defending from the hosts – but Paul Ince’s side managed to hold on to secure what could be a vital win for them. And they had the opportunity to double their advantage five minutes when Carroll won a penalty – but that chance was squandered by Yakou Meite who blazed his spot-kick over the crossbar. Reading FC boss Paul Ince applauded Tom McIntyre and Junior Hoilett who helped Royals claim a 2-1 win against Swansea City at the Select Car Leasing Stadium ...
The 32-year-old winger has played out of position at wing-back on a number of occasions this season, but has continued to put in solid performances throughout the campaign. He gives his all and he’s one we’re lucky to have because he can play in lots of different positions. “He can play left centre-back, left wing-back, left side of midfield. This set up a chaotic final 20 minutes for Royals, who did not want a repeat of their last meeting with the Welsh side, throwing away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2. I was going to play Baba [Rahman], but I thought he looked tired. Reading FC moved up to 8th in the Championship table after their 2-1 win against Swansea City and goalkeeper Joe Lumley shared his verdict on the Royals ...
Lumley added: “There were some sloppy moments in the first half, but we got through it to half-time 1-0 and then that second goal proved the difference. Lumley pulled off a spectacular save to tip Joel Piroe’s header onto the post in the 71st minute, but Cullen was on hand to tap in the rebound. Reading pressed and punished the Swans for trying to play out from the back early in the second-half, with Tom Ince’s deflected effort sneaking inside of the far post to make it 2-0. “My mum did really well with her presents but it’s a great win from the boys against a really good team. Tom Ince's match-winning goal in the 2-1 win over Swansea City marked his 100th career goal, 12 years on from his first.
He could have bagged a brace with the final kick of the match, staring an open goal in the face after the goalkeeper had gone up for a corner. He was awarded Sky Sports' Man of the Match award for his performance against the Swans, adding the teams second after Andy Carroll had put the hosts in front. His sixth goal of the season, it is his eighth for the Royals since his move.
