Later in the episode, Kara reveals to Adam's wife Maddy (Oona Chaplin) she knows Adam isn't Dorian as he was with her the night her men were killed.
Patrick tells Maddy to give him the files as Adam had promised to do so the day before. Kara calls her associate in the Russian government saying she will give her the files if she gets her a plane ticket out of the UK. If Adam was Dorian it would be pretty stupid to give the future prime minister a detailed file about your identity as a double agent. Throughout the series it's not clear if it is Adam and as a viewer, it's unclear whether we can trust his actions. The five-part series tells the gripping story of the deputy head of MI6 Adam Lawrence (Charlie Cox) who must take over as the head of the institution after his boss is poisoned. However, things are not as they initially appear, after a woman from Adam's past threatens to disrupt his life and position at MI6.
Charlie Cox, Oona Chaplin, Ciarán Hinds, Tracy Ifeachor and Olga Kurylenko star in a new thriller with lots of potential twists and turns.
The intrigue is in the web that’s already twisting itself into a knot by the end of the first episode. She’ll have her own suspicions, both of Armstrong and of Dede; she’s too smart and savvy to be played by both of them at once. As long as the show stays on that, while giving some of the third-tier characters a little more to do than what we’ve seen so far, it’ll make for a satisfying thriller. His writing has appeared in the New York Times, Slate, Salon, RollingStone.com, VanityFair.com, Fast Company and elsewhere. It should make for some interesting back and forth between her and everyone in her life. But the first episode doesn’t really give some of the rest of the cast, like Alex Kingston playing Audrey Gratz, whom we assume is the British Home secretary, much in the way of story. At the same time this is going on, a CIA team lands in London, led by Dede Alexander (Tracy Ifeachor). In the meantime, his boss Sir Martin Angelis (Ciarán Hinds), dubbed “C” for “Control”, sits at his fancy dining club with the president of the Supreme Court, showing him evidence of an affair and an illegal visa that he can make go away if the official plays ball. One of the things that seems to trip up a lot of thriller series, especially ones that take place inside the world of international intelligence, is that they lose focus. They know each other from his field days, when Kara was SVR (Russian intelligence) and the two of them were lovers. There are others in the cast like this, but it’s hard to imagine casting Kingston in a tiny part with nothing to do, so we hope that she and some of the other ancillary characters factor into the story more as it goes along. She wants to help the driver, but she later tells him “I don’t fuck up,” as she poisons him.

The 2022 Netflix spy thriller "Treason" takes us inside the perilous and secret world of espionage, where the past of a celebrated MI6 officer came to ...
She revealed that his judgment was flawed, and that Patrick Hamilton was Dorian, who was leaking information to his Russian counterpart. Martin believed that Adam could betray his nation, though all that man desired was to be a true patriot. Adam had a conscience, and he did whatever he could to help Kara get justice for the families of those locals who had suffered. Kara had to prove to Adam that she had not kidnapped his daughter. Adam didn’t help the families of the deceased and left them and Kara to die. Kara knew that she needed some leverage to make Adam give her the information that she needed. Adam knew that if he didn’t fight for his own cause, Martin Angelis would be able to prove that he was a traitor. Martin believed that whatever he was doing was right, and not even once did he think that somebody other than Adam could be the double agent. Kara wanted Adam to be the chief of MI6, and that is why she was making sure that he became the golden goose of the organization. That is why as soon as he was made the interim chief, the first thing he did was to call his family to inform them that they would have to put up with the interference as they would be accompanied by security personnel wherever they went. He knew that his daughter needed time to cope up and he dealt with the issue with a lot of empathy and delicacy. You see evidence of how much he cared for his family through the little things he did for them.
For supposedly high-level spies, the characters in the Netflix thriller miniseries Treason don't seem to be very good at the craft.
Chaplin has to carry more of the plot as the series goes on, but Maddy is even less engaging than Adam. Although Hinds is great at looking vaguely shifty, Treason also never has a clear villain to root against, so the final episode leads to a series of anticlimaxes, even as it seems to be setting up a potential second season that could take the story in a new direction. Both American and British intelligence have branded Adam a traitor, so he goes on the run, putting his family in danger while wavering on whether to trust Kara. The two of them have a history, going back to a botched operation 15 years earlier in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku. Characters evade entire security teams with laughable ease, initiate highly sensitive conversations in obvious earshot of colleagues and civilians, and discover the exact information they need in the exact place they expect to find it. If you do too much of it, it gets really tedious, and you feel like, "I just want to do some acting." Obviously it’s bittersweet in that regard, that if they do do a second season, I won’t be able to be involved. So it was fun to have a little bit of that, with guns and running. I did think it was handled in a way where it genuinely was shocking, certainly in reading it. So it’s a bit like when someone accuses you of something you didn’t do, but they did catch you out on one technicality which you have to admit is true, and then it makes you look guilty ubiquitously. So working with Ciaran is just such a delight because he’s so brilliant, but he’s also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and he’s such a generous person and actor. It’s just a joy to be on set with him, and on camera with him. But then he kind of twists it in a way that makes it more – I think – more truthful, and therefore more interesting. He takes something that you feel like there’s a very obvious, dramatic version of a device. But you kind of get used to that happening now. So it was a really wonderful experience, top to bottom, actually. And also, with COVID restrictions, there’s not many producers on set in the way that they were in the past.
In the series created by Matt Charman, Charlie Cox plays a under-the-radar deputy, the one running the UK secret service, MI5.
Overall, Treason is little more than an exercise in wasting everyone’s time and the perils of phoning in your material. Developing meaningful chemistry between these characters appears out of the question as Cox is just made to look like a mix between Instead of offering something fresh or original, the appearances made by these talented character actors just makes you want to go back and watch their earlier works instead, be it Daredevil, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Quantum of Solace or Doctor Who.
Daredevil star Charlie Cox has explained how the major death in finale for TV series Treason almost didn't happen before Netflix made a call.
‘Matt called me and he was like, “So I just got off the phone with Netflix and as much as they love you, it’s like, we need you to die. ‘That’s one thing that was in the original pitch to me. So it was always part of the plan. ‘I think that’s really important, that it feels like it can live and breathe. Maybe we don’t kill him or maybe he survives? but it’s quickly made clear that he had in fact been killed.

The series has already covered the major plotlines for the theme, and all five episodes have covered the majority of them by the end, leaving no scope to be expanded further by the contents of the book. As, all the episodes of the first season of Treason are now available to stream on Netflix, with the series concluding its 5-episode story arc a few hours ago. Hence, it seems unlikely that the series has much left to offer in terms of more episodes. The first thought that comes to mind for viewers is that many major TV networks or streaming platforms are attempting to expand the series as a franchise. Unfortunately, as for Treason, which was adapted as a limited series for spy territory dramas, the future looks grim.

This has to be a nod to Daredevil's history with the web-slinger, and the fact the Treason star appeared in last December's Spider-Man: No Way Home. This all comes to a head at a builder’s yard where Angelis’s agent, Olamide, is digitizing the kompromat and burning the original paper files. Dede served overseas with Adam’s wife, Maddy, and when Adam begins acting suspiciously, she pushes Maddy to believe that her husband is a traitor to both her and his country. As a result, Angelis has been keeping Adam close so that he can manipulate him, which we learn is a habit of his. This is thanks to a late-game plot twist, so we’ll do our best to answer not only this question but also dig into the circumstances surrounding that twist and why it occurred. Adam left her in-country because he wanted to take credit for the job and couldn’t risk their relationship getting out. Its protagonist is Adam Lawrence, an MI6 agent who circumstances force to confront a very troubled past that he has deliberately kept shrouded in secrecy.
Charlie Cox is known and loved as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Daredevil, but Netflix's Treason reminds viewers that he's more than Matt Murdock.
His presence keeps the show from turning into another clone of Taken because the viewer doesn't lose sight of the emotional stakes, not just the ones about terrorism and counter-intelligence. Of course his personal life is a mess. Charlie Cox is what makes Treason successful, and Treason will give TV viewers more appreciation for Charlie Cox. People are going to see it and see more of what he can do. While Charlie Cox has a 20-year career (and counting), his Marvel association casts a long shadow. Netflix's new spy thriller Treason; is a mini-series starring Charlie Cox as the new head of MI6, from the writers of The Bridge of Spies.
There is a brief moment in the hospital scene where the head of MI6 tells Adam, “Trust nobody” and that line feels like it can be taken to heart in this show. Adam calls Kara telling her to leave his family out of this, that it’s between the two of them, as the episode closes out. The head of MI6 also thanks him for the books to read during his recovery, which is an odd thing to say, given that Adam hadn’t gotten him any books. Adam looks up the incident in question using his new top level access, and it appears that MI6 had no involvement. Adam is less than pleased with this proposed version of history and leaves the meeting. Adam follows the clues and meets up with the mysterious woman who we can now start referring to as Kara. This information is probably pretty important to him, since this has made him the acting head of the organization. The mysterious woman discovering that her partner has been compromised, begins to cover her tracks by murdering him with another dose of poison. He survived being hit and due to his proximity to the crime, his information may be relevant to their search. Adam, who is currently the second in command of MI6, was at his son’s school for a career day presentation when he got the news that the head of MI6 was poisoned. He’s not dead but is in critical condition on the way to a hospital. As the blackmailing is happening, we follow a mysterious woman who enters the same club under the guise of an employee.
Netflix's newest release, 'Treason,' starring Charlie Cox, is about an MI6 agent accused of, well, treason. Is it based on a true story?
I wanted this to feel like we could imagine this guy going to work, we could imagine what he was doing and the toll it takes on him, then he comes home and he has to have dinner with his kids and not tell them a thing. While he was inspired by MI6 agents that he had met in the past, Treason's storyline isn't specifically based on a true story. "What's always struck me about those in that line of work is how brilliantly they fit into everyday life — how well and easy it would be to meet them at a party or sit next to them on the tube, have a little chat with them and not know what they do for a living. Since the latter was based on a true story, fans are wondering if Treason is as well. The show was created by Matt Charman, writer of the Oscar nominated film Bridge of Spies.
