Flu-hit Bulls dig deep, down Dragons to return to winning ways (News24)

The Bulls, desperate for a win following a difficult couple of weeks, were too strong for Wales' Dragons on Friday night.

For the Bulls, this was far from their best performance of the season, but that won't matter one bit. With the scoreboard reading 17-0 after 15 minutes and with the Dragons down to 14 men, it looked to be a long way back for the hosts. Goosen then knocked over a routine penalty to make it 10-0, and things got even better for the Bulls when the Dragons conceded a penalty try as scrumhalf Lewis Jones slapped the ball dead when it looked like Canan Moodie was certain to pluck it out of the air and score from a Zak Burger chip.

The DHL Stormers registered a rewarding 40-8 bonus point victory against the Emirates Lions in an entertaining Vodacom United Rugby Championship clash at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday evening. New Year's Eve fireworks as Sharks blow Bulls away.

Goosen provided the first spark with a scything counter-attack from deep and link up with Kurt-Lee Arendse, who had the pace to finish. The visitors had to make a late change with flyhalf Chris Smith forced to withdraw through illness. With this convincing bonus-point win, the men from Pretoria put two derby defeats behind them to restart their Vodacom URC campaign.

After a string of penalties, they simply moved the ball to Harold Vorster who came in on the angle to go over untouched. Then the errors started creeping in and the momentum shifted. Bulls fired up after cold disruption (SARugbymag)

Scrum coach Werner Kruger was delighted with how the Vodacom Bulls overcame the absence of an ill Jake White and Chris Smith for their bonus-point win ...

โ€œIt was a great evening for the boys, and itโ€™s always good to see them going forward. Kruger added: โ€œWe had a good start, and all of a sudden, they came back โ€“ it was due to our lack of exiting our half. โ€œWe said beforehand โ€“ myself and Russell, it takes a special performance away from home [to win]. โ€œItโ€™s a bit of a disruption, and we planned the whole week with Chris, and Jake was obviously involved,โ€ Kruger said post-match from Wales on Saturday. We just said we need to manage that territory battle a little bit better and get out of our half. It took a bit of a reshuffle, but the boys switched on and stayed focused on the task at hand.โ€
