Barcelona sue LaLiga over wage cap increase issue (ESPN)

Barcelona are suing LaLiga over its refusal to allow them to join others in increasing salary cap by 15%, club vice president Rafa Yuste said.

"We believe the club's rights are being infringed." The Catalan club were forced to activate a series of their own financial "levers" last summer, selling off assets -- 49% of Barca Studios to Socios.com and Orpheus Media and 25% of domestic TV rights for the next 25 years to Sixth Street -- to be able to increase their squad spending limit sufficiently to register new signings. The rest were handed funds to invest in infrastructure and modernisation, as well as a 15% increase in their league-imposed squad spending limits, in return for CVC receiving 11% of LaLiga's TV rights revenue over the next 50 years.

Like Valencia, Real Betis failed twice across their four kicks, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen picking up saves both times.

Real Madrid And Barcelona Fans, Welcome To One Of The Richest ... (Forbes)

There is plenty more to this clash in Saudi Arabia beyond the famous rivalry that will take center stage.

Native Saudi Arabian ventures NEOM and Red Sea Development had their names on the 2022 tournament, and though NEOM does once more, the other’s involvement is unclear. Altogether, it can cost comfortably—or less so—north of €100 ($108) monthly when factoring in all the other services. However, unlike the arenas built in neighboring Qatar for the World Cup, this stadium is not designed for one-off events. There are logistical components to this event, too, with supporters usually able to purchase refundable ticket bundles in case their team doesn’t reach the final. Yet it is believed to stem directly from the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority Turki Al-Sheikh—who oversees sport and related departments while owning La Liga team Almería. The Middle Eastern nation reportedly supplied the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) with €40 million ($43 million) each year between 2020 and 2022, despite the 2021 edition taking place in Sevilla due to the pandemic.

Furious Barcelona sue La Liga after they're barred from upping their ... (Goal.com)

Barcelona are suing La Liga after being banned from increasing their salary cap by 15%, 18 months after declining a deal that would permit the change.

La Liga earns less money, and you earn less than the Premier League’s biggest clubs. But the cash flow is running thin, and the CVC deal would have given the Blaugrana a major boost in spending power next year. In response, the club has filed a legal complaint, suggesting that La Liga preventing them from allowing a salary cap increase means they can't compete with rival clubs.

Rafa Yuste, Barcelona's first vice-president for sport, criticized the leaks from former club officials that included disrespect towards Lionel Messi.

On the state of the pitch: “I liked the state of the pitch the other day. The team has coped well with his absence and he’s going to help us a lot now.” This gives us a lot of confidence for the next games. On the possibility of winning the sextet: “This thought is not in our head. The players in question are Valverde, Camavinga, and Militao, who have all responded well and are in contention to feature against Barcelona. They have started winning in 2013 and they will never have a full belly because they have a mental quality that is very high. They are comfortable and used to this kind of pressure and we are very confident.” Also because we are in a very demanding club and it doesn’t allow you to have a full belly.” And it was again visible during the semi-final encounter against Valencia, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side relying on penalty shootouts to progress to the final. Eder Militao and Lucas Vazquez were also substituted after picking up injuries to the head and the ankle, respectively.

Three talking points from Barcelona's win over Real Betis (Playing for 90)

Barcelona were taken all the way to penalties by Real Betis but the Catalan side prevailed to set a date with Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.

The same line-up he went for against Betis may be the same one we see in the final with only a few changes in defense. Perhaps not the smartest move to introduce the slow-paced Busquets against a quick side like Betis who were more than confident they could win and advance to the final. He was sent off in the match against Atletico Madrid and offered very little once more against Betis. He was given an opportunity to impress in Barcelona’s hard-fought win against Intercity in the Copa del Rey and failed to do so. Torres was brought on in the second half and actively did more harm than good. He was active during his time on the pitch and the hope is he is able to use this as a stepping stone to get his season on track.
