Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen (AET): Kemar Roofe seals Scottish League ... (Sky Sports)

Match report as Rangers come from behind to beat Aberdeen in Scottish League Cup semi-final; goals from Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe cancel out Bojan Miovski ...

Jack played a one-two with Morelos at the edge of the box and his right-footed shot came off on-loan Celtic defender Liam Scales and wrong-footed Roos. In the 15th minute Miovski broke clear of the Gers defence to latch on to a Leighton Clarkson pass and drove high past McGregor from an acute angle. Clarkson's pass split the backline and Miovski looked offside but Matty Kennedy kept going past left-back Borna Barasic to take possession. The excitement continued. My eyes are on [our next match against] Kilmarnock." A lot of focus pre-match was on the Hampden pitch, which had been criticised by both Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and Killie manager Derek McInnes following Saturday's last-four clash.

Aberdeen, like Kilmarnock against Celtic on Saturday, brought a lot to the semi-final. It was a straight red. There was another big talking point before extra time ensued. It was Rangers' best move of the game, aided by a bit of fortune. It was his first goal in six games. VAR had an early impact too, when Miovski netted for the first time.

6 Nick Walsh calls in Rangers vs Aberdeen as Ryan Kent escapes ... (Scottish Daily Record)

The Premiership rivals came to blows in last four action and there were talking points aplenty.

VAR did have a look at it but the gasps across the commentary box and widespread agreement on social media just about tells you all you need to know. Soon enough, it was announced there would be no VAR for the majority of the extra-time allocation. By the time he collected it and his number nine reunited with him in an onside position, the damage was done for Rangers. But the IFAB rulebook states what the definition of serious foul play is and Walsh didn't deem it as so. VAR has got criticism though for the length of time it's taken to make decisions and while this was far from a long one, some fans began to get restless as Walsh waited for the thumbs up. So this type of thing caused a stir in the Manchester derby on Saturday. The incident wasn't flagged to Nick Walsh and didn't appear to even be looked at by the VAR in Clydesdale House. Miovski wheeled away in celebration but his moment of glory was cut short almost instantly by the offside flag being raised. The Light Blues pushed high and the technical prowess of Leighton Clarkson was all too keen to pick them off. Ryan Jack stored parity for the men in blue as his strike deflected off Liam Scales and into Kelle Roos' net after the hour mark. [Michael Beale's](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/michael-beale) side were unfortunate not to be ahead early doors when Fashion Sakala hit the post but Bojan Miovski was soon to be up the early end scoring, although his Aberdeen opener was ruled out for offside. [Celtic](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/celtic-fc) in the final after coming from behind to win 2-1.

Rangers v Aberdeen reaction: 4 in 23 final stat needs remedied ... (The Scotsman)

Rangers and Aberdeen served up a captivating Viaplay Cup semi-final at Hampden Park. The Ibrox side came out on top in extra-time. Joel Sked looks back at ...

Both aspects added to a captivating match of football, it added to the pantomime of it all, the entertainment. The last thing we want is for it to be like that nonsense south of the border where everything is VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS. The ball rarely stuck to him and he rarely found himself in a position to plunder a goal. Yet, it should be noted regarding the latter, Scotland is not the first country to suffer issues with VAR not working. And that is one of the key benefits of Shinnie’s game, a willingness to take responsibility, whether it is in or out of possession or leading by example. The former’s return to the club should take some of the responsibility of the latter.
