- Man City have won 13 of their 16 meetings with Arsenal in all competitions under Pep Guardiola (D1 L2), only beating Burnley (14) more since the Spaniard took charge. The only other team to have won nine home games in a row while scoring 3+ goals in FA Cup history is Blackburn Rovers between 1881 and 1885, a run of 12. - Arsenal have won their last four FA Cup games against Man City. - Arsenal lost their last FA Cup match against a fellow Premier League side, 1-0 at Southampton in the 2020-21 fourth round. - Manchester City have won their last nine home matches in the FA Cup, scoring at least three goals in every win and 40 goals in total. - Riyad Mahrez has been involved in seven goals in his last five FA Cup appearances for Man City (6 goals, 1 assist) and has netted a brace in each of his last two games at the Etihad (vs Fulham last February & Chelsea in this season’s third round).
With both teams in excellent scoring form there should be plenty of interest in backing another goal filled encounter when they meet in the FA Cup.

For what people think, I accept it because I probably wouldn't have had the career I had as a player, the understanding of the game or the purpose that I had as a player if he hadn't been there at that time. Even so, a trip to City in any competition presents perhaps the toughest test in the country. "I feel gratitude because [Pep] inspired me as a player and he inspires me and gave me the opportunities as a coach. Arteta is one from one against his old boss in the FA Cup. I was looking at him and I just wanted to achieve what he was doing. I loved the way he played, the way he was transmitting on the pitch and understanding what was happening. "He's an Arsenal supporter, for the fact he used to captain there and he loves the club. Just like in his playing days, he is determined to cast off labels of a Guardiola impersonator and be his own man. "I have never tried to copy and paste anything because I don't feel it, this club deserves much better than that and it wouldn't work that way," Arteta said. And for one week, the title race has been put on hold as attention turns to the FA Cup, with Arsenal chasing a domestic double at the expense of his old boss. "I remember that when we were together here, when we scored a lot of goals with other opponents he always jumped and celebrated - except [against] one team. After one pre-season friendly, Pep took aside the nervous 16-year-old, desperate to make a positive impression, and gave him a full run down and appraisal of his performance.
football.london's Arsenal writers offer some assistance to Mikel Arteta with regard to his line-up for the FA Cup fourth round-tie against Manchester City ...
And this is why Arsenal must go as strong as possible at the Etihad Stadium with rotation kept to a minimum. This is the trickiest XI to try and justify with how intriguing a fixture this is for Arsenal. Kiwior to play alongside a regular starter in William Saliba and the goalkeeper and full-backs rotating for the cup makes sense. However, I can see Leandro Trossard coming in for Gabriel Martinelli on the left-hand side as the Brazilian has looked a bit off the pace recently. Alternatively, Kieran Tierney and Rob Holding offer defensive security if a lead needs to be protected heading into the closing stages. Mohamed Elneny's likely absence means Thomas Partey has to start alongside Granit Xhaka and captain Martin Odegaard as I don't think this is a game for Albert Sambi Lokonga. On the right, Leandro Trossard would be my pick, and then Eddie Nketiah would play up top as I don't feel there's an out-and-out back up for him in the squad right now. I like Albert Sambi Lokonga but I don't trust him to play six at the Etihad yet personally, so I'd bring him in for Granit Xhaka and then Fabio Vieira for Martin Odegaard. I have landed somewhere in the middle making six changes as opposed to making wholesale swaps. Some might say it's a lot to put Kiwior straight in at the deep end for his first start, but let's see what the Polish defender is made of. There's a strong argument that the winner of this tie will have the psychological advantage for the Premier League meeting in just under three weeks. The next game the squad players will get a chance to feature in won't be till March assuming they go out on Friday, so why not give them a run-out.
With the Gunners leading City in the Premier League title race, Friday's fourth-round FA Cup contest at the Etihad Stadium will whet the appetite.
With [Thomas Partey](/topic/thomas-partey) and Granit Xhaka in midfield, Arsenal are more physical. Guardiola and Arteta are facing different challenges to motivate their players this season. Pep Guardiola says he is prepared to 'fight on the touchline' with Mikel Arteta when Manchester City play Arsenal in the FA Cup.
‘I know him and I had the feeling during the time we worked together that what he is doing is not fake, it is him. So after that I am not a judge. ‘He wants to beat me and I want to beat him. ‘It is what it is. I know how we both are and in defeat we are not the best friends in the world. ‘Sooner or later it’s going to happen, I guess, but when that is going to happen it’s not going to change the respect I have [for him] or anything.’

I know he went to his club, where he is a supporter, he was a captain there. “I knew it from when he was here (at City), his ability. “We respect them as people and football players. I remember here, when we scored goals he would jump a lot except against one team. To do this, they had to support him, that’s why you need time and investment. The results are there.
Guardiola was keen to distance himself from Arsenal's success under former Manchester City assistant Arteta ahead of their FA Cup tie.
If I like it and I feel it and I can adapt with the players. "There are many things to do to make 50 points, you don’t make 50 points with just a good build-up or good pressing or good crossing or good deliveries. I was in Germany and I learned many things playing with [Philipp] Lahm or [David] Alaba. Not because they have success so I copy and paste. "What I see in Arsenal and many things happening belongs to Mikel and his people. I watched a lot because they have been the biggest rival in the last years and will come back sooner or later. The many things they do belongs to them so I would like to say, ‘Yeah, what they do is because I teach him’. I want to compete with them and want to see tomorrow how far we are from his team. "My biggest influence is Johan Cruyff but many, many things I do, I learned. "They play in the pockets with [Granit] Xhaka… They play with wingers higher than the midfielders, like us - yeah. Still, Guardiola insisted that any success is down to Arteta and his staff, not him.
Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has warned his friend and Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta that he (Pep) is prepared to 'fight on the touchline' when.
“He wants to beat me and I want to beat him. Guardiola explained that the respect he has for his former assistant as a person and as a manager will not diminish even “if we’re going to fight on the touchline. Guardiola and Arteta share great respect for each other as the latter has served as an assistant to the former at the Etihad before becoming the boss at the Emirates Stadium.

We lost our last FA Cup match against a fellow Premier League side, 1-0 at Southampton in the 2020/21 fourth round. The only other team to have won nine home games in a row while scoring 3+ goals in FA Cup history is Blackburn Rovers between 1881 and 1885, a run of 12. When a team makes 50 points in one leg, it’s because they have been the best and they are. City’s only worry concerns Phil Foden, who has missed their last two matches with a foot injury picked up in the recent Manchester derby. The reigning champions began the season in their usual imperious form, winning seven and drawing two of their first nine league games before suffering defeat against Liverpool. Maybe because of the players on the pitch, but as well the context is extremely different.” -
