Jamshedpur FC beaten 2-1 by Mumbai City FC (Jamshedpur FC)

Jamshedpur FC went down 2-1 to Mumbai City FC at the Furnace after goals from Lallianzuala Chhangte and Vikram Singh turned the game around.

The agony was complete for Jamshedpur in the 86th minute as an attempted cross from Vikram Singh flew past Rehenesh and into the top corner. JFC’s dominance paid off as Boris Singh ran down the right flank in the 63rd minute and scored past the goalkeeper at the near post to send the crowd into raptures. The second half began with a bang for the hosts, with Pronay Halder forcing Lachenpa into an acrobatic save in the 53rd minute while Ritwik’s tap in from three yards out was somehow cleared off the line by Ahmed Jahouh in the 58th minute.

Despite a valiant effort, Jamshedpur FC succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Mumbai City FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex Stadium on Friday (January 27).

Harrison Sawyer - 6/10: Sawyer was instructed to mark Jahouh when he dropped into midfield and did a commendable job in restricting the Moroccan. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - 7/10: Thomas added a presence in the middle of the park and protected his back four well. Rafael Crivellaro - 6/10: Crivellaro’s exclusion was surprising, but Boothroyd’s decision was justified. His constant runs in behind were useful when Jamshedpur FC looked to hit the Islanders on the break. Rehenesh TP - 5.5/10: Rehenesh had a nervy moment in the early minutes when he appeared to foul Jorge Pereyra Diaz in the box. However, he made an error for the Islanders’ goal, which ultimately cost his side in the end. Ricky Lallawmawma - 7/10: Ricky was energetic and prevented Chhangte from going past him. Additionally, the Brazilian won four out of his five ground duels. They were adventurous and targeted the box with Sawyer and Chukwu in it. Following the goal, substitute Vikram Pratap Singh secured all three points when his attempted cross found the back of the net in the 87th minute. The Men of Steel started the second half where they left off in the first. Despite having most of the ball, the Islanders struggled to get going, and were surprisingly not at their flowing best.

He made another change soon after in the 73rd minute as he brought on Vignesh for Mandar Rao. Soon after however, the Red Miners went into the lead thanks to a goal by Boris in the 63rd minute of the game. Greg played an incisive through ball to Chhangte in space on the right side of the box. After Jahouh nicked the ball off of Ritwik in midfield and he played it to Greg ahead of him. I make better decisions now, says Lallianzuala Chhangte (Hindustan Times)

Most effective Indian in ISL, says India head coach Igor Stimac of the Mumbai City FC player with nine goals and five assists. | Football News.

For Chhangte that began when “we played the Asian Champions League.” In the break after the Asian Champions League (where Mumbai City became the first Indian team to win in the revamped competition), Chhangte trained with Jeje Lalpekhlua, the bulldozer of an India striker whose career got waylaid by injury, in Mizoram. The work I put in in the seasons that didn’t go well got me to this position where I can impact games,” he said. That could mean a return to the India team for the March friendlies at home after missing the Asian Cup qualifiers last year due to injury. “About how well can I get into the box and how can I get the shooting right. “I think the most important thing is to keep performing like this. “He has always been part of the set-up but last season there were players such as Manvir Singh who were doing better.” He put his trust in me and when a coach does that, you want to put in extra effort. With nine goals and five assists, Chhangte is in line for the ISL Golden Ball. It was fitting that the two wide players, Singh and Chhangte, so crucial to Mumbai City FC’s record unbeaten run, had orchestrated the goal. But this happened when Chhangte, having vacated his usual place on the right flank to Vikram Pratap Singh, had moved to the centre. The pass arrived and Chhangte slid in the equaliser with his weaker right foot. Then, Bipin Singh shook off the challenge from two players and played the ball in the box.
