Runaway Dstv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns overcame a stubborn Sekhukhune United at the Loftus Versveld Stadium.

Babina Noko responded well after going behind as they started to unsettle the Sundowns team. Their efforts were rewarded as Shaluile gave his side the lead in the 49th minute. Despite the defeat, Brandon Truter's men should take pride in the match as they never showed any fear to their opponents and, at times, put them under immense pressure.

Sundowns' relentless march towards PSL title continues after win ... (Independent Online)

Mamelodi Sundowns edged closer to a sixth consecutive title when they beat Sekhukhune United in Saturday afternoon's DStv Premiership clash.

Shalulile showed fantastic movement to dodge his man but Mkhulise’s low cross saw him shank his effort and Ali Sangare gathered with ease. On the side of Sekhukhune, it was a ‘backs to the wall’ approach by coach Brandon Truter as he set up his side in a 5-4-1 formation, looking to deny the hosts space in the final third. The 28-year-old popped up in the middle of the goal to tap home a Gaston Sirino cross, putting Ka Bo Yellow on their way to yet another win.

The hosts created numerous chances but their players, including their sharpshooter Peter Shalulile, Neo Maema and Thapelo Morena, failed to put the ball in the back of the net. The first half failed to produce a goal in spite of an influx of chances created. When the two sides met earlier in the season, Sekhukhune were able to force a draw against Sundowns and that is a result they would not have been too disappointed with in the Saturday game.

Sundowns pinch Sekhukhune at Loftus (Johannesburg Sunday World)

Mamelodi Sundowns registered their 14th straight win in the PSL when they scored a hard-fought 2-0 victory over a determined Sekhukhune.

Super-substitute Cassius Mailula came on late in the second half and he increased the lead and made it 2-0 after rolling the ball into the net, following some hard running from Thapelo Morena on the left. Sundowns goal scoring-machine Peter Shalulile got a sniff at goals but his tame shot was stopped by the alert Sangare. But against the Limpopo side under scorching conditions in Pretoria, they struggled to stamp their authority.

Sundowns cruise past Sekhukhune enroute to 13th league title (Citizen)

Beating Mamelodi Sundowns is proving to be more difficult with each game and Sekhukhune United are the latest to learn this.

Sekhukhune managed to prevent Sundowns from scoring. Sundowns were reduced to 10 men in the 75th minute with Marcelo Allende getting a straight red a few minutes after coming on. The middleman had initially cautioned Allende with a yellow card but after consulting with the fourth official changed it to red. From the restart Sekhukhune had the ball in the back of the net but Chibuike Ohizu was in an offside position when he scored. Sekhukhune had almost upset Sundowns in the first minute with Victor Letsoalo getting a rare chance but his shot sailed harmlessly wide. Sekhukhune may have felt they had a chance to upset Sundowns when the Brazilians were reduced to 10 men at Loftus Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
