It's also good to hear that training has looked so fresh, even if Liverpool fans will only really believe it when they see it on the pitch on Monday. The fact that Firmino and even Arthur are not too far away either is also encouraging — the pipe dream of a full squad is edging ever closer. In the last game, of course Arsenal was dominant, but Everton had really good chances before they scored." "People don't want to hear these kind of things, it sounds like excuses, but there must be reasons for a few things we did this season. We try to manage workload as much as we can. "The players are back in training in different stages. Liverpool welcomes Everton to Anfield on Monday for the Merseyside derby. Manchester City has been hit with more than 100 allegations by the Premier League, which will now be referred to an independent panel. We don't turn into bad people overnight, we didn't lose our football brain. Bobby, I don't know, we'll have to see how he deals with training intensity. Questions swiftly moved onto the upcoming game. Everton, meanwhile, is down in 18th, but showed early signs of a resurgence under newly-appointed Sean Dyche with an impressive win against top-of-the-table Arsenal.

Jürgen Klopp demands Liverpool 'reaction' in Merseyside derby (The Guardian)

Jürgen Klopp has called for a 'reaction' from Liverpool when they face Everton on Monday after taking one point from their past four matches.

Asked whether the team looked primed to provide a response, Klopp said: “Definitely, absolutely, all the signs are there but when I say that I know people will: ‘Say show it on Monday’ – and we have to show it on Monday. “We did the analysis, we talked to each other and then gave them two days off because it is a very long time between Saturday and Monday. “The boys delivered a lot of great moments in the last few years but in this moment we are fighting to change the situation in a better direction.

Liverpool face Everton on Monday in the Merseyside derby but all is not well at Anfield. The Reds are currently tenth in the Premier League and have cr.

“When he is ready, and in good shape, he plays 98% of games or something like that. We spoke to each other and then gave them two days off because it’s a very long time between Saturday and Monday. “It’s not that we’ve lost the football brain and don’t know the game anymore. But now, we have to show a reaction and I know our people want to see that. Arsenal were dominant, but in the end, Everton had really good chances before they scored and they could have scored in other moments as well, so we prepare for the team we saw against Arsenal. “I don’t understand why we talk about one player. The boys have delivered a lot of great moments. “And you could see that in the last game. Virgil (Van Dijk), I don’t think is that close, but we will work on that. “The players are back in training in different stages. We have to see. We will have to see how he deals with training intensity.

Jurgen Klopp defends under-fire Liverpool midfielder (90min)

A frustrated Jurgen Klopp has sprung to the defence of Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson amid criticism from some over his recent performances.

"When you have changes up front, you want a settled midfield where it's clear what is happening. The last season was long ago, we try to manage things like workload as much as we can. We don't turn into bad people overnight, or we lost the football brain or stuff like that. "People don't want to hear it because it sounds like an excuse," Klopp laughed. "When he's not playing, you miss that. At 32, Henderson is the oldest of the bunch, behind only 37-year-old bench option James Milner.

There has been in the past, and that's something Sean Dyche has to get into himself and fix. A lot of that's down to a mentality, and not in terms of working hard, but at times there's almost a fear to win from Everton players. But Liverpool know they've got someone special, it's been a poor season for everybody concerned, but Klopp's still the man for me." "Some of the performances have been pretty shambolic. They've run so far, so long, so fast, and had so much quality in games over the last few years, but it's been a huge drop-off and you can't dress it up as anything else. It's not just the results, it's the performances.

Klopp is one of the greatest managers of the Premier League era and you simply cannot sack him after winning the title, Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, reaching four other major finals and twice missing out on the title by a single point. The revamped front line has yet to click, partly because Jota and Diaz have been out injured for a long time, and it will not happen overnight. Are we are reaching the end of another seven-year cycle? At the moment, Liverpool are in such a state of transition that I would make Everton slight favourites to win the Merseyside derby on Monday night. But even given his under appreciated ability to play just about anywhere on a football pitch to a competent level, he is another of Klopp's ageing stars and at 37 the end of his top-flight career is nigh. A curious feature about Firmino is that he has never scored more than 15 league goals in a season for Liverpool and his strike rate this term of seven from 13 makes it one of his better campaigns. He looks to have plenty of talent but he has been wildly inconsistent and his first-team appearances have become fewer - playing just three minutes in the top flight since October. He may not be part of the long term plans as he approaches 30-years-old but he most certainly will be crucial short term, and with a contract until 2026 there is no pressure to sell. Joined Liverpool for £60million in the summer of July from RB Leipzig but never quite lived up to the excitement of his transfer fee. Not only is he one of the best at the club, he is arguably one of the best in the world. At 25 years old with a contract until 2027 there is no need nor pressure to sell one of the Reds best defender - and that's before you factor in his usefulness for home grown quotas. The Dutchman is still Liverpool's best defender but he has been starting to struggle with injuries in the latter part of his career and at 31 is now going to start losing transfer market value. There is enough cover at the club to ensure it would not be too much of a risky move. But this could be a transitional transfer window for the club, and the 24-year-old's past form has earned him a chance to prove his poor form could just be down to an 'off-season'. Robertson has been essential at the back and going forward for the Reds and at 28 years old with a contract until 2026, there is simply no need to axe one of Klopp's trusted lieutenants. He may be Irish but he also counts as a home grown and that is a major factor to keeping him on board.
