Reading FC progress to semi-final of Berks and Bucks Cup (Reading Chronicle)

Reading Under-21 beat Beaconsfield Town 2-0 to progress into the semi-final of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup.

Our league is great and the more we play in it the more first-teamers we see coming to play against us, they played against Oli McBurnie and what-not at Sheffield United. Nelson [Abbey] and [Jacob] Borgnis at the back were really good and our wide players were really clever. I think we deserved it in the end and could have had a few more.

Super subs Azeez, Guinness-Walker and Fornah star in Reading FC ... (Berkshire Live)

Our verdict on how each Reading FC player performed on Tuesday night against Rotherham United in the Championship at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Keen to prove a point and gave the side plenty of energy up and down the left flank. Drew Reading level early in the second half with a powerful, precise header. Part of a double sub at half time, replacing Hoilett. Always looked to get forward, even if he was rather wasteful at times. Provided the team with so much energy and determination. Went close with a volley early on inside the Millers area which was blocked. Struggled to get up to the speed of the game and needed to be more positive with his passing but kept his cool when it mattered most with a precise, calm header. Lasted just 40 minutes before hobbling off with what looked like a foot injury. Introduced just before the break with Rahman going off injured. Played again as a right wing-back and had a few moments where he threatened down the flank but needs to offer a lot more creatively to the side. Looked very lost in the first half but got better in the second and managed to be more of an effective presence in breaking up play and getting Reading forward. A few silly challenges, though, led to him picking up his 10th booking of the season in the second half which now means he misses the next two matches.

Reading FC 2-1 Rotherham United: Player Ratings (The Tilehurst End)

Harry rates the Royals after the late win against the Millers.

However, a goal and assist in the second half means I simply have to bump him up. However, Ince is the one that needs to step up when we need someone to pick a pass or create something, but tonight wasn’t his night for that. Whether or not he should’ve started after Saturday is an entirely different argument, but whilst he was on the pitch I thought he did okay. We limited the visitors to very few chances, and Mbengue was part of the defence that did that. There’s definitely a player in there, we just need to see him on the field more often. Didn’t really have anything to do apart from pick the ball out of his net after Peltier’s opener.

Reading FC pick up first win of 2023 over Rotherham United (Reading Chronicle)

Tyrese Fornah's stoppage time winner was enough for Reading to earn a first win of 2023, coming from behind to squeeze past Rotherham United 2-1.

10 minutes later and the roles were revered as Carroll hooked a pass over the defence for Azeez to chase. A series of head injuries killed any flow to the match, but it was the visitors who saw the first real effort as Cameron Humphreys saw a header flick off the top of the crossbar from a corner. For the first eight minutes of the encounter, it was all Reading.

A loss tonight would heap more pressure on him because many supporters are already unhappy. The very defensive, negative way of playing isn’t helping. [‘Terrace Talk‘ series](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/category/terrace-talk/), which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more… With this in mind, it’s difficult to be too harsh on Reading’s boss but the negative brand of football isn’t helping the mood at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, with the Royals having the potential to play much better. Not only were have they been consigned to the free agent and loan markets, being limited in the number of players they can bring in too, but they also lost key players last summer. With the Royals still above the relegation zone by a considerable margin, it would perhaps be harsh to dismiss him at this point because the club have faced a lot of adversity this season.

Reading 2-1 Rotherham United: Fornah finds crucial 90th minute ... (Reading Today Online)

READING FC's wait for a Championship win came to an end after a dramatic 90th minute winner from Tyrese Fornah. The midfielder popped up with the all ...

And it was Peltier who got on the end of a free-kick to nod into the far corner not long after striking the woodwork with his previous opportunity. With the game about to head into stoppage time, Fornah came up with his best moment yet in a Reading shirt to head in from close range to put his side in front. They did so in a promising opening 10 minutes. It proved to be tha catalyst for the leveller as Azeez floated a free-kick in the direction of Carroll who rose high and sent a bullet header into the corner. The ball fell kindly for Royals skipper Andy Yiadom from a free-kick, but a Rotherham body managed to themselves in the way to deflect his effort behind for a corner. Up against a side in the midst of a relegation dogfight, Reading needed to take the initiative and be on the frontfoot.

Reading FC 2-1 Rotherham United: Ty To The Rescue (The Tilehurst End)

Andy Carroll and Tyrese Fornah sealed a comeback win of huge importance for the Royals on Valentine's Day at home to Rotherham.

It was again the speed of Azeez that won us a corner in the last seconds of the 90 minutes. It was all very scrappy, but in the end the three points are the only thing that counts. Regarding the first, Carroll was the key. Carroll then flicked the ball onto Azeez who shook off the defender and blasted the ball on goal, but Johansson was quick to parry it away (62nd minute). Even though it was a missed opportunity, one thing became obvious: the speed of Azeez and Guinness-Walker was much needed and gave the team an energy boost. Deserved boos for the men in blue and white. Whenever one team was in control of the ball, they lacked the quality (and self confidence) to pass their way into the box. 0-1 to the Millers (37th minute). The likes of Carroll, Long, Hendricks and Sarr surely have all their skills, but for a team that was mainly unable to get a simple ball precisely into the next one’s feet, there were far too many slow players. Not surprisingly the chance fell to the visitors. On two occasions Tom Ince looked on fire and could only be stopped by a foul from the Rotherham defence. The visitors travelled to Berkshire undefeated in the last four games (one win, three draws).

Reading FC boss responds to half-time boos in Rotherham win (Reading Chronicle)

Reading boss Paul Ince does not believe his side deserved booing off the pitch at half-time in yesterday's 2-1 win over Rotherham United.

We know it’s going to be tough, and sometimes I get frustrated, and the fans get frustrated. I’m not keen on the booing, I don’t think we warrant that, but I can understand the frustration. Responding to the boo's, Ince said: "I can understand the fans getting frustrated at half-time.

“If we keep chopping and changing, we’ll never get any continuity. I did that against Preston so to win it in the 90th minute is always a bonus.” And we have to stick together, that’s important. And that’s what subs are all about – they are fighting for their place and if they make an impact when they come in then it makes me think for the next game. “In the first half we looked tired.

'Played so well' - Rotherham United boss makes major claim in ... (Berkshire Live)

Reading FC left it late as Tyrese Fornah headed in a 90th minute winner to beat Rotherham United in the Championship on Tuesday night.

We have to improve in key moments of the game and we had to defend our box better. I thought we were outstanding in the way we worked and our front two had a threat about us. In terms of performance levels, box-to-box, I thought we were the better team and we created the better chances. I thought the game got a little bit scrappy in the second half. It was a huge effort from us, but we have got no points and got no reward. We were the better team. We didn’t understand the instructions with regards to the obvious threat. "The first-half performance was as good as we’ve seen for a long time. It feels so raw now because we played so well on the night." "I can’t hide my frustration at that. "It was two set-piece goals, which were both preventable. [Andy Carroll](https://www.getreading.co.uk/all-about/andy-carroll) seven minutes after half time and substitute Tyrese Fornah won it - also with a header - in the 90th minute.
