Martinez and Rashford were logical entrants and the decision not to take off Antony rather than Garnacho paid off. Some decent link up play but not come close to having a goalscoring chance. Had no killer impact in the first half but created two goals in the second and one of them stood. Made a decent start but then regressed and got booked. Did not lack for effort but did lack quality. Caught out for Antonio’s one-on-one and booked for a clumsy foul.

Moyes set the team up well but another case of one that got away. Could even have put the tie to bed for West Ham. David Moyes - 6/10 - Time and time again West Ham play pretty well but fail to kill the game off. His short cross inside was collected by Benrahma, who bent a terrific spot past the motionless De Gea and into the top corner. RW: Pablo Fornals - 6/10 - Created a few openings on the right hand side but again lacks the quality really needed to kill games off. CM: Fred (86' for Sabitzer) - 7/10 - Right place at the right time to seal the deal for United. GK: Alphonse Areola - 6/10 - Made a really good save from Sabitzer early on but was not authoritative enough at the set piece that cost West Ham the equalising goal. Erik ten Hag - 8/10 - Recognised that United needed changes to turn the game on its head. RW: Marcus Rashford (58' for Antony) - 6/10 - Not the all-conquering display that we've become accustomed to seeing - but United did turn the screw after his introduction. CB: Lisandro Martinez (58' for Lindelof) - 7/10 - No real surprise that United began to get a grip on proceedings once Martinez entered the fray. LM: Alejandro Garnacho - 8/10 - Bright early on as United looked to probe the capabilities of West Ham's Ben Johnson and then produced a moment of real quality to win the game. CM: Marcel Sabitzer - 7/10 - Proving to be a really good bit of business by United in the January transfer window.
It looked like extra time was looming at Old Trafford before Alejandro Garnacho fired the home side ahead with 24 seconds of normal time remaining. Garnacho ...
Didn’t have much to do defensively with West Ham firmly under the cosh after his arrival. Casemiro’s presence was sorely missed in the first half. Forced a good save from the West Ham goalkeeper early in the first half after chopping inside on his right foot which triggered chants of ‘Viva Garnacho’ from the Stretford End. Good ball to release Garnacho and a nice layoff to set up a chance for Sabitzer in the opening ten minutes. Substituted for Marcus Rashford just before the hour mark. His corner forced the own goal from Aguerd but he struggled to create from open play and was wasteful in possession. Subbed at half-time for Casemiro. Booked for a clumsy foul. One of United’s better performers on the night but faded away in the second half. Tested Areola with a fine strike early in the game. Switched off to allow Antonio to get in behind in the first half. Huge save in the first half to deny Antonio after Lindelof and Maguire were both caught sleeping.
