As a result, the SRC remained even more determined to see the realisation of all demands sought by the student body. The SRC said in showing a willingness to reach a consensus, the student body de-escalated the protest action on Monday on campus. Once again, in keeping with their regressive stance of baseless and ignorant non-compliance, the senior executive team deferred the meeting for tomorrow (Tuesday) as they are of the view that students can afford to sleep in labs, libraries and campus bathrooms for another day," read the letter.
Mnyamana announced his suspension in a tweet on Monday, saying he was waiting for instructions from his legal advisor, Advocate Dali Mpofu.

Furthermore, the committee will meet urgently next week to look at cases and practical solutions. It is important and necessary for the academic programme to continue,” said Patel. The balance of the accommodation cost and all accredited buildings must make provision for NSFAS-funded students at the scheme’s rates. “So this means next year 60% of our NSFAS students will not be able to register because of the cap,” said Mnyamana. “This working group will also jointly engage NSFAS and all other relevant parties on seeking solutions to this crisis, as Wits University is not able to absorb this shortfall because it would compromise the financial sustainability of the institution,” said the university. The SRC then said it rejected the university’s exclusion of students who cannot register because of the university’s set criteria.
The SRC says the suspension is a form of intimidation and that protest will continue regardless.
The SRC claims that Mnyamana did not neglect or ignore the suspension hearing and that he was willing to comply with the notice. “This comes as a form of trying to silence the SRC into trying to raise just and fair issues that affect student affairs around registration and accommodation,” said the SRC in a statement. Patel said the allegations against Mnyamana are of a serious nature and relate to conduct that infringed on the rights of other students, resulted in damage to property, and the intimidation of members of the university community, among other things.
