Take note, Eskom – thieves can't bribe their way out of Hell (Independent Online)

LETTER: Criminals do not understand the calamity that they impose on themselves and their families as wealth gained from criminality cannot be sanitised.

Those in luxury offices at Nersa and the government who pretend to defend “the poorest of the poor” while their friends and family steal at Eskom must know that they will not escape judgment. When those who are robbed curse the robber, the Creator listens. Criminals do not understand the calamity that they impose on themselves and their families as wealth gained from criminality cannot be sanitised. For example, those who steal from Eskom do not realise the damage they are doing to themselves regarding their connection with the Creator. In truth, the Qur’an gives importance to economics, and it says that those who stockpile the Creator’s provisions and deprive others of sustenance commit a crime against themselves and humanity. Some people think that when they donate or build a synagogue, church, mosque, or temple, they can buy their way into the Creator’s mercy.

Eskom announces reduced load-shedding (MyBroadband)

The utility said the change was possible due to “some recovery” in generation capacity in the past 24 hours, without providing further details.

I wanted to see the actual amount of time we have had no electricity for, not just the time loadshedding is for in general. That meant that for around 31.58% of the time — or about a third of the day — they did not have power due to load-shedding. [recent calculation by Stellenbosch resident Jono Hulley](https://twitter.com/jono_hulley/status/1628401198586896385/photo/1) also showed for how much of the time that has passed in 2023 households in his area did not have electricity due to load-shedding.

Econ Oil fights Eskom blacklisting that caused flight of banks, funders (Independent Online)

According to Mlonzi, Investec terminated its relationship with Econ Oil “in light of the recent build-up in news regarding Econ Oil and Eskom allegations” ...

This was after De Ruyter ordered the cancellation of a contract between Eskom and Econ Oil based on allegations of corruption. She added that the utility acted in a selective and discriminatory manner, saying other firms implicated in fraud and corruption continued to provide goods and services to Eskom. Eskom said Econ Oil’s account of the dispute was not based on facts and maintained its position that the company was appropriately deregistered from the power utility’s supplier database. Mlonzi has alleged that the power utility blacklisted her company while those who have been involved in corruption continue to do business with the state-owned utility. “It is common cause that FNB’s relationship with its customers is one governed by the Private Law of Contract in terms of which FNB derives the right to terminate. These suppliers have sought to terminate their relationship with Econ Oil based on Eskom’s unfounded allegations,” she told the Competition Tribunal.
