SportsLine's proven model simulated the Valspar Championship 2023 10000 times and revealed its surprising golf picks.
So who will win the Valspar Championship 2023? Hadwin is one of a handful of former champions in the field as he won this tournament in 2017. The Copperhead Course places a premium on accuracy off the tee as its fairways are lined with pine trees. He also ranks 194th on the PGA Tour in approaches from inside 100 yards. The model was also all over Rahm's (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. The 26-year-old enters this week's event ranked 164th in greens in regulation percentage (64.37%) and 186th in strokes gained: approach to green (-.658). This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Burns got off to a fast start in 2023, finishing T-11 or better in two of his first three starts. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner. This episode kicks off with Jonna immediately telling Wes that KellyAnne just "attacked" her, and she might have to throw her in as a result. Wes points out ...
The legends on the sideline try their hardest to help Nelson, but he won't listen to their advice or adapt in the moment; he just fruitlessly tries the same thing over and over again, showcasing one of his biggest weaknesses in this game. Grant announces that he and Jonna are sending in KellyAnne and Tristan against Nelson and Jujuy. Benja tries to politic with Jonna, but KellyAnne is listening in and studying Jonna's face the entire time, eventually coming to the conclusion that Jonna won't send her in. Team Argentina takes another hit, and now Team Australia is going to feel the heat. In The Arena, Nelson puts his hair up, signaling to Jonna he wants Tristan and KellyAnne thrown in. It was KellyAnne's comment about how they should be targeting strong teams that sent her over the edge, given that Jonna and Grant are one of the strongest teams at the moment. Wes points out that while KellyAnne may be all over the place emotionally, she's "eerily loyal" and the right move right now is to send in Jodi. She laughs, because the person going into elimination doesn't really have a choice, but now she has an easy scapegoat if she does decide to throw in KellyAnne — she can just say it was Nelson's choice. She wants to remain allies and get on the same page. Exes Kaz and Theo are also starting to get to a friendly place, or at least to a place where they can joke about how they haven't been in a good place with each other for two years. They goof around by the pool and Jordan reveals they're in a better place than ever since their breakup, and they're going to be allies this season with "hopefully less turmoil" than they had on Ride or Dies. [The Challenge: All Stars](https://ew.com/creative-work/the-challenge/) in a row, Jonna has learned a thing or two about how to put the game above personal relationships or emotions.

Riley was 29th at PGA National but 3rd for Greens in Regulation, 7th for Ball Striking and 18th for Strokes Gained Tee to Green in that Honda Classic field. After a shaky start to 2023 on the west coast, Riley, despite a missed cut last week at THE PLAYERS, has been more comfortable on the Florida Swing. He also landed top 20 finishes at the Sony Open, the Memorial Tournament, the Wyndham (7th going into Sunday) and the PGA Championship. - J.T. By incorporating Opps gained, we can give a boost to players who are not only hitting greens but hitting it close. Last year, Copperhead played the easiest in its history with an average of -0.77 under par. Over the past five events, scoring has been +0.33 shots over par, ranking it as the ninth-toughest annual course on TOUR. The "Snake Pit" is the signature stretch of closing holes here at holes 16-18. The nine Par 4s have an average length of 441 yards. Denny McCarthy (33/1) also missed the Top 10 by a stroke last weekend. Matt Fitzpatrick (18/1) finished 5th here last year. The next time we will see him is next week when he attempts to defend his title in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

[accepted it](https://www.pgatour.com/article/news/latest/2023/03/14/ties-that-bind-akshay-bhatia-and-jordan-spieth-at-valspar-championship) in advance of the Valspar. (He’s currently 17th in KFT points.) He’s also earned the opportunity to take it because he’s 64th in the FedExCup thanks primarily to a T2 at Sea Island last fall. Akshay Bhatia (+125 = Top 40) … This is his first week off in the last nine, and he missed the last five cuts, so needs a blow. He’s usually among the top 50 on the PGA TOUR in the statistic with an average of about 300 yards, and he averaged 281.4 yards at last year’s PLAYERS to rank 20th, so it’s clear that he’s not 100 percent. (See more about that in the intro above.) There’s always work to be done, but given his trajectory, he’s arguably in the best position that he’ll be in his career until he’s on the other side of the bell curve. Another vital component of Lee’s decision not to play Valspar is that he’s eligible for the Match Play after which the top 50 in the OWGR will be exempt into the Masters. Short of winning, their ultimate goal is finish inside the top 125 of the FedExCup with their equivalent of points. The provision does not apply to top 10s among non-members in the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play, the Barbasol Championship and the Barracuda Championship. He has not, so he is not in the field at Copperhead. I do this for a living and I’ve conveyed how often I’ve been burned by the unpredictability of the wind even in short-range forecasts.
Tracy West, the tournament director at the Valspar, joined GOLF's Subpar Podcast to explain how one of the event's unique traditions started.
The first year only 10 or 15 caddies participated, but now, about six years later, half the field is in on it. The only issue now, however, is monitoring what goes on. West said she has to give the PGA Tour’s Andy Pazder a lot of credit.
Details such as the power rankings, defending champion, prize money, winners cut and more about the 2023 Valspar Championship.
Additionally, all the players who make the cut will get a piece of the purse. [2021’s runner-up, Keegan Bradly](https://www.essentiallysports.com/pga-tour-golf-news-deserved-to-win-keegan-bradley-lauds-sam-burns-following-2021-valspar-championship-duel/), is the event’s top contender this week. He’s missed only one cut in the five appearances he’s had at the event and placed in the top 20 in the remaining four. Moreover, he has a splendid record at Copperhead, having made the cut 9 out of 11 times and placing three times in the top 10. Stretching till Sunday, i.e., the 19th of March, the event will be played over 72 holes at the Copperhead Course in Peal Harbour, FL. Following golf’s so-called 5th major, the Players Championship, the PGA Tour stays in Florida for its next event – the Valspar Championship.

SportsLine expert Patrick McDonald analyzed the Valspar Championship 2023 field and revealed his top golf picks, best bets, props, sleepers and fades.
This golfer is "quietly playing some great golf," the expert says, and he put in a strong putting performance at Innisbrook last year. On the other hand, McDonald expects a strong outing from Bradley and is backing him to win. And which golfer in the Valspar Championship 2023 field could bring a monster payday of around 150-1? He won the Zozo Championship in October, one of four top-10 finishes this season. The expert finished the 2021-22 season up 42 units on his outrights, including a monster 250-1 payout on Hudson Swafford at The American Express. With success on the Copperhead Course heavily reliant on the approach game, McDonald expects him to struggle this week. He is having a profitable season in both outright picks and head-to-head matchups. The expert also just missed a massive 130-1 score at the Sony Open when Hayden Buckley finished as runner-up. Spieth (12-1) and Burns (15-1) are right behind, followed by Fitzpatrick (18-1) and Bradley (22-1), as favorites in the Valspar Championship 2023 field. McDonald takes a measured approach to his outright selections and is having a profitable 2022-23 season. Before making any 2023 Valspar Championship picks, be sure you Sam Burns has won the past two years and aims to become the first golfer since 2011 to win an event three straight times.

The second placement pick is Ben Griffin to finish in the top 40. Due to the demands of the course and possible PLAYERS fatigue, I kept my card tight. There’s a specific recipe off the tee followed by a pressure filled formula for hitting the greens. Whether they are scrambling for birdie on the par 5s, or saving par on another hole, Strokes Gained Around the Green (SG:ARG) helps you separate yourself. He was 9th in SG Off the Tee, ranking 31st in Driving Accuracy and 13th in Driving Distance, and was 28th in the field for Scrambling. He comes off a respectable finish at The Players (27th) where he was 10th in the field for Scrambling and 4th for SG Off the Tee. Over the last eight rounds, across both the PGA and DP World Tours, Smalley ranks Top 25 in this field for SG Tee to Green and SG Off the Tee. He has a 4th and a 6th place finish at the 3M Open and an 18th and an 11th at the Memorial. He has finished as high as 9th at the Valspar, has two Top 10 finishes at the RSM, and a 5th place finish at the Memorial. His ball striking can be iffy, but last week at The Players, McCarthy ranked 13th in the field for SG Off the Tee and 24th in Greens in Regulation. 1 in this field for SG Par 5’s, 19th in Scrambling, and 11th in SG Around the Green. Moore can be a little erratic off the tee, but he did rank 44th in the field for Driving Accuracy last week. In his career, Rose has finished Top 10 at the Valspar three times, twice Top 15, and twice Top 25. Hadwin comes off a 13th-place finish at The Players and is a past winner at the Valspar. The specific skill sets I looked at this week were Strokes Gained Approach, Strokes Gained Around the Green, Scrambling, and Strokes Gained Putting (Bermuda Grass). Players who have multiple Top 20 finishes at this championship are ball strikers who excel on approach shots and are responsible off the tee.

I've been in this position before and it really makes me happy that I've handled it so much better and learned from all the experiences I've had."
