If they can bounce back to beat an unstoppable-looking Irish team at the Aviva Stadium, then it will go down as one of the all-time great Six Nations shocks.

It looks glorious in Dublin after some morning rain, the skies blue and the sun just starting to dip. Not an empty seat in the place for what could be a famous Irish evening. It is set up perfectly for Andy Farrell’s side - can England gatecrash the party? The England full back returns in kind, Lowe claiming a mark inside his 22. A tackle in the air from Owen Farrell, Jamison Gibson-Park bumped with a limited use of the arms from the England skipper. "I've been lucky enough to play alongside a big chunk of that English team and I know how proud they are. On the face of it a trip to Dublin is the last fixture England would have wanted. But such is the strength of this Irish side and the state of the England team that another embarrassing defeat is far from the realms of possibility. Even though Dublin has never been an easy place for teams to go, it is hard to remember a time when England travelled across the Irish Sea with expectations so low, and fears of another soul-searching defeat so high. His Ireland side have won 21 of their past 23 Tests - the two defeats coming away to France and New Zealand - are world No 1 and heavily fancied to win the Grand Slam this afternoon. The match against France was effectively over as a contest within the first 10 minutes.

Ireland v England referee Jaco Peyper landed himself in trouble ... (WalesOnline)

The South African official found himself in hot water following his actions in the wake of a World Cup match between France and Wales.

It was enough to open a World Rugby investigation, with officials later branding the gesture as "inappropriate". His arrival on the international scene came during Scotland's tour of Oceania in 2012, where he oversaw the tourists' 9-6 win over Australia, as well as their 25-7 win over Fiji and their 17-16 victory over Tonga. Outside of rugby, he is a trained lawyer. Here's everything you need to know: He has since officiated in both the 2015 and the 2019 Rugby World Cups. Jaco Peyper is the man in the middle for his clash, and isn't exactly a stranger to controversy.

Ireland v England: Six Nations – live (The Guardian)

Minute-by-minute report: Can Ireland clinch a Six Nations grand slam with victory over England in Dublin? Find out with Lee Calvert.

The answer from this example is “not great” as the replacement Ireland fullback bounces the ball off himself to give England a scrum in the Irish half. The latest deep kick from Farrell has Johnny Sexton shanking one into touch for not many metres, as even the most experience mad on the park starts to tighten up with the weight of expectation. The ball is spending a lot of time in the air, as both sides look to kick and it’s England who are winning the battle so far. The ball ends up in touch and the teams set to with some pushing and shoving, which adds even more to the tension and drama. He’s stopped, but on the next phase he’s up to take an offload from Conan to run over in the corner. Ireland work the short-side via Mack Hansen who feeds Dan Sheehan who is lurking on the right touchline. But England aren’t lying down for it as they catch and drive a maul over the line for George to dab it down. The Fields Of Athenry is ringing around the stadium as the home fans finally start to relax and truly believe. “One of the best nights of our careers today. I thought we showed a tremendous amount of fight, we gave away too many penalties and the game changed with the card, but we stuck in it and caused them some problems. It was squeaky bum time for a while at 10-9, and the pressure France had put on us in recent weeks. - TRY!

Ireland player ratings: A deathly hush around the Aviva Stadium set the tone for an eerily nervous opening for Andy Farrell's Ireland...

[Rob Herring](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/rob-herring/) chipped in with a well-taken 5-pointer. [Jimmy O’Brien](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/jimmy-obrien/) made a big impact as did Jack Conan. Unlucky to get pinged for wheeling the scrum in the 29th minute. Fluffed his lines with a dud lineout throw but all was forgotten when he bulldozed his way over for a try that few hookers in world rugby would have finished. One to forget for the tighthead superstar. Like many off his teammates, the occasion got to Baird early doors, but he soon hit his straps. A return to form for England’s [James Ryan](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/james-ryan/) – 6 Another player who was trying to make things happen. Hardly vintage Sexton but he managed Peyper well and won the flyhalf ego battle with Owen Farrell. [James Lowe](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/james-lowe/) – 7 This did not look like the best rugby team in the world.

45 mins to kick-off: A first Grand Slam since 2018, in a World Cup year no less, would cap off a brilliant few months for Andy Farrell and his side ahead of the tournament in France at 2023's end. The visitors have had a bright spell in the last few minutes and win a ruck penalty. Farrell comes back to kick the points, and notches three more over to extend the visitors' lead. 43 mins: Lowe takes a high ball and spits it out the back to Gibson-Park. 57 mins: Ireland pinch the ball from an England maul and Gibson-Park scampers into space. Sexton converts to add the two, and the hosts hold an eight-point lead inside the last quarter of the game! The ball is moved inside, before a fantastic Conan offload puts Sheehan over in the corner for his second of the game! It spins closer to the posts, and one final shove from the back sees George ground the ball! 79 mins: The stadium is roaring the chorus to Ireland's Call as full-time nears, and with their side confirming a Grand Slam at home for the first time in Six Nations history, this St. 80 mins: England do their best to keep the ball alive through Ludlam, and carries from Tuilagi and Slade. England closed the gap early in the second half before Ireland pulled away in the last quarter, with Henshaw, Sheehan and Herring all crossing in the same corner. From the maul, Josh van der Flier found a rampaging Dan Sheehan on his inside, and the hooker powered over to send Ireland into a 10-6 lead.

England fell to a 29-16 defeat to the Six Nations Grand Slam winners Ireland in the tournament's final match. We rate the Red Rose players in defeat.

He landed a few solid hits on defence but also conceded a penalty and turnover over. 6 Lewis Ludlam: An abrasive performance in the heat of the battle, piling into the rucks and muscling up on defence. 8 Alex Dombrandt: The number eight didn’t quite rise to the occasion again, and while he did have some success with his carries, he still isn’t fronting up physically. While he didn’t test the fringes, his passing and kicking were the highlights of his game. It was not the perfect game from the centre, but the value he added to the backline was clear to see, particularly in the battle with Bundee Aki. 13 Henry Slade: His best performance of the tournament and aided by having the powerful Manu Tuilagi inside him.
