Formula 1 Racing 2023: How to Watch and Livestream the Saudi ... (CNET)

Max Verstappen looks to make it two for two in 2023 at today's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Here's how to watch without cable.

Sling TV lacks ABC, which could be a problem for fans hoping to catch the F1 races in North America. Those in the UK will need Sky Sports to watch F1 racing in 2023. As an added bonus, Hulu Plus Live TV comes with the rest of the Disney Bundle, which includes a subscription to Disney Plus, as well as ESPN Plus. [ESPN Plus](https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/espn-plus-review-a-must-have-for-some-but-not-all-die-hard-fans/), but the service offers a ton of other content for die-hard sports fans. If you already have Sky Sports as part of your TV package, you can stream the game via its app, but cord-cutters will need to get the Sky Entertainment and Netflix package starting at £26 per month, plus an additional £20 per month to include Sky Sports. You can catch the entire race weekend with a subscription to YouTube TV. If you find yourself unable to view the game locally, you may need a different way to watch the game -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. Teams need both strategy and skill to compete against some of the best minds in motorsports. We've broken down everything you need to know in order to stream today's race, and all the other F1 races this season. The length of the races also varies, with some, like the Indianapolis 500, lasting 500 laps and taking over three hours to complete. The entire race weekend, including practice sessions and qualifying, will be shown in the US on ESPN's family of television networks. The US will now host three F1 races this season for the first time: in Austin, Miami and Vegas.

Alonso took the lead into Turn 1 but a subsequent time penalty for lining up outside his grid box, coupled with the relentless pace of the Red Bulls, meant he had to settle for third place. “The team did a fantastic job. Mercedes and Ferrari had no answers for Red Bull’s pace as they distantly followed in two-by-two formation, Russell getting the better of team mate Lewis Hamilton, and Carlos Sainz leading Charles Leclerc home. we really did a job in the first stint, but that Safety Car again tried to take the victory from us in Jeddah – but not this time! I don’t know what to do.” Sergio Perez converted pole position into victory at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix as team mate Max Verstappen recovered from P15 to make it successive one-two finishes for Red Bull. That Safety Car… In the meantime, Perez found another level of pace to respond to Verstappen’s charge and stabilise the lead gap at just over five seconds, with a similar margin back to Alonso in third, followed by the Mercedes cars, the Ferraris and the Alpines. Ferrari duo Sainz and Leclerc sandwiched the Mercedes of Hamilton, as Tsunoda – another to benefit from the timing of the Safety Car – Ocon and Gasly rounded out the points-paying positions. That strategic move paid off for Ferrari when Sainz pitted on Lap 16, and Leclerc a lap later, with both drivers getting the jump on Stroll as they rejoined the action – the Canadian’s evening then ending dramatically when he was told to stop his car on track. When the grid formed up and the lights went out – with most drivers opting for medium tyres – Alonso sent the crowd wild as he bolted off the line to snatch the lead from Perez into Turn 1, with Russell slotting into P3 ahead of Stroll and Sainz. Perez overcame an attack from Alonso at the start, a nervy Safety Car period and Verstappen’s charge from the midfield to make up for the potential win he lost at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit a year ago – kick-starting his championship hopes in the process.

Alonso loses podium after penalty as Perez wins Saudi GP (BBC Sport)

Sergio Perez holds off team-mate Max Verstappen to take a Red Bull one-two in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Alonso was too far to the left, and had his left-hand wheels out of the grid box on the track. He served it at his pit stop under the safety car but towards the end of the race Mercedes told Russell to push as hard as he could to keep the margin between the two cars to less than five seconds in case Alonso was penalised for the pit stop itself. In the stop, the mechanic at the back of the car touched it with the rear jack before the penalty time was up and the stewards punished him post-race, giving Russell his first "podium" of the season, even though Alonso stood on it with Red Bull drivers. Verstappen set his mind on trying to set fastest lap and clinched it on the final lap - stealing it from Perez - to ensure he leads the championship by virtue of the point he gained for setting it. Perez was 5.4 seconds in front by the time Verstappen got into second place and was able to hold the margin at about that same amount for the rest of the race. He served it in his pit stop, but it was adjudged that the team had broken the rules by touching the car before the five seconds had elapsed and he was given a 10-second penalty as a result, promoting Russell to third.

Alonso gets Saudi GP F1 podium back after penalty overturned ... (The Race)

Fernando Alonso has had his controversial Saudi Arabian Grand Prix penalty overturned, which reinstates his third-place finish.

It is understood that these related to the front jack rather than the rear. Nonetheless, the team argued this proved it was incorrect to assert there was an agreement that “touching the car in any way, including with a jack, would constitute “working” on the car”. The team successfully argued that the stewards were wrong to believe there was an emphatic agreement in place that the jack touching the car did indeed constitute working on it.

Formula 1: Major takeaways from Saudi Arabian GP 2023 (Khel Now)

Max Verstappen jumped 14 places from starting at P15 to finish second in the Saudi Arabian GP, while teammate Sergio Perez took home the win.

Ferrari needs to pull up their socks and they seem to have the pace to beat the other two in races. The pit crew had just out-smarted Stroll with a double over-cut, thanks to 2.7 seconds and 2.1 seconds stops to Sainz and Leclerc respectively. It could be a breeze for the defending double champions to lay their hands on both titles. However, he was dropped to fourth with a post-race 10-second penalty and George Russell was promoted to the final podium spot. Both Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc had to cut through the field and made good progress, but just as the Monegasque driver had exited the pits and over-cut Lance Stroll with his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz, the safety car was brought out on lap 18 after Lance Stroll trundled to a stop. Perez used his race-craft to good effect to shoot past Alonso and build an advantage, before managing the lead from his charging teammate.

Mark Hughes: Red Bull's driver face-off exposed its fragility - The Race (The Race)

Max Verstappen's defiance of orders from his Red Bull team set up a fascinating time trial at the front of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

He radioed it in, a bunch of engineers and analysts in the garage and at Milton Keynes looked intently at all the parameters on the data. Game most definitely on as the safety car pulled in with three-fifths of the race still to go and Perez only a few seconds up the road. He served this at his stop under the safety car, but VAR evidence suggested afterwards that the rear jack was in contact with the car before the 5s had elapsed. He decided he would rather it failed as he tried to catch Perez than do that – and he got back on it. That’s how hard Perez was pushing as they traded fastest laps and left the field far behind. Perez was in a steely frame of mind and his pace had been close to Verstappen’s all weekend, just as in Bahrain. The car was oversteery on entry, he was reporting, concerned that something may have been amiss. Hamilton was Verstappen’s next scalp, a simple DRS pass – “I’ve never seen anything like that before,” said Lewis of the speed difference. By the time he’d dealt with them he was only 5s behind Sergio and the pitstops were all done. The gap with 10 laps to go was 4.3s. “So at one point, it’s something more important to just settle for a second and not, you know, having an issue with the car.” In the end, it was Max himself who made the call.

Edd Straw's 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix F1 driver rankings - The ... (The Race)

The Saudi Arabian GP was another Red Bull whitewash but its F1 pair weren't the only ones to put in great drives. Here's Edd Straw's rankings.

Bottas lacked the edge of pace Zhou could deliver and was unable to offer a clear explanation for why in qualifying. De Vries recovered from losing FP3 to a power unit change and a spin on his first flier in Q1. He produced another combative first-lap, including a good pass on De Vries at Turn 13, but was ultimately stuck in the lower-midfield. Zhou climbed from 17th to 13th by the finish in a race in which he spent too much time caught up with Haas, AlphaTauri and Williams drivers. Sainz was half a second off Leclerc in Q3 and didn’t appear as comfortable with the car on the limit. He followed Magnussen, and latterly Tsunoda, to the end. That cost him a lap good enough for Q2, with mistakes on his subsequent two runs preventing him from setting a serious time. And despite his best efforts, even with car concerns, he wasn’t able to close the gap and had to settle for second. Hamilton complained of feeling disconnected with the car after setting only the eighth-fastest time in qualifying. Ocon was a little more comfortable with a car he described as “floating in high-speed” than team-mate Gasly and produced a superb qualifying performance. But that was still enough to earn him a front-row start. How close each driver got to delivering on the maximum performance potential of the car will be an essential consideration.
