Campaign launches to inform people in Cornwall the signs of sepsis (Free Radio)

A campaign has launched to inform more people about the crucial signs of sepsis in Cornwall, as our NHS faces continued high pressures.

This could be because of system pressures, it could be a lack of staff, it could be a system that is on its knees, but that doesn’t make it right for the one who slips through the net. The leaflets will be put in patient discharge kits for all patients leaving the hospital. Leaflets will be given to patients discharged at the Royal Cornwall Hospital as part of a pilot project to help people notice signs before it's too late. Someone today said that we’re amazing, and I appreciate that, but we’re not alone, together we will keep fighting this fight". "I did not know what sepsis was, I had never heard of it. Melissa Mead MBE, sepsis campaigner, said: "Symptoms that William experienced, he was sort of pale, cold, mottled skin.

- Based on the Products, most of the sepsis diagnostics market's revenue is controlled by the blood culture media category. During the forecast period, the market for Sepsis diagnostics is projected to experience the highest CAGR for the molecular diagnostics category. Additionally, it is anticipated that the rising prevalence of infectious illnesses and Sepsis diagnostics will increase the need for cutting-edge diagnostic methods. - Based on the Pathogens, most of the sepsis diagnostics market's revenue is controlled by the consumer category attributed to its enhanced traceability, high effectiveness, and removal of repetitious diagnostic procedures. - Based on Technologies, the molecular diagnostic category controls most of the Sepsis diagnostics market's revenue. This region's lucrative expansion is also a result of an increase in regional and international players' attempts to enable coverage of cutting-edge scientific robotic technology. - Based on Test Types, most of the Sepsis diagnostics market's revenue is controlled by the laboratory devices category. An extensive examination of the microorganism and its medication resistance profile is provided by clinical laboratory testing. The Sepsis diagnostics (XR) market is therefore driven by rising investment in technology. We forecast that the molecular diagnostics category in Sepsis diagnostics market sales will account for more than 35% of total sales by 2030. The gold standard for the molecular diagnostic method has been the clinical specimen analysis for quick and precise characterization of diseases. It is also anticipated that increased financing for Sepsis diagnostics-related research initiatives and rising spending in extended research and development initiatives, including new blood culture techniques for diagnosing and treating chronic infections, will restrain market expansion.

Horses look to be a valuable model for sepsis research - review ... (Horsetalk)

A better understanding of equine sepsis to lead to new therapeutic approaches and even improve prevention of the devastating disease in humans and horses.

This would require the mobilization of equine veterinary care centers worldwide in order to include an adequate number of horses and to carry out multicenter studies. “So it would take five similar equine hospitals to perform a study of 300 cases in one year. Horses hospitalized in intensive care receive intravenous fluid and antibiotic therapy as seen in human medicine, which is not the case in current experimental models. A better understanding of the mechanisms associated with sepsis would allow for earlier and more appropriate management, they said. “Experimental data suggest that, like humans, they are much more susceptible to the effects of endotoxins. To obtain robust and reproducible results, such studies must rely on two levers. “Furthermore, like humans, and unlike experimental models, horses live in an environment rich in microbial exposure. In intensive care units, sepsis is the leading cause of death. The first would be to validate the definition of sepsis used in veterinary medicine, ideally developing one as closely aligned as possible to the definition used in human medicine. “Despite the differences between horses and humans, the spontaneous development of sepsis in horses, especially after gastrointestinal diseases, could be a lever to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms and for the search for biomarkers and therapeutic targets in large-scale studies.” Horses with sepsis show many of the signs observed in humans, with similar drivers that generates the dysfunctions that can lead to death. In their review, they provided an overview of the different animal species used to model human sepsis, then focused on adult equine sepsis as a spontaneous model of sepsis and its potential implications for human and veterinary medicine.
