Cape Town's favourite wild cat spotted 'hiding' in plain sight (CapeTown ETC)

Cape Point is a majestic destination known for its breathtaking views that are truly a sight to behold. But on a lucky day, it's not the one.

The Urban Caracal Project aims to protect biodiversity through research and conservation. So, it’s refreshing to see kittens being born and increased sightings of caracal life. With Cape Town’s rapid urbanisation, caracals are the city’s largest remaining indigenous predator. It’s widely considered one of Cape Town’s premier fishing spots where anglers go to hook pelagic fish like yellowtail, snoek and kabeljou, in the deep waters immediately off shore. As one of the Western Cape’s top tourist destinations, Cape Point is truly a sight to behold. On a lucky day, it’s not the only sight to behold.

Introducing the UCT Inaugural Lecture series (University of Cape Town News)

In recent years, the University of Cape Town (UCT) has commemorated our academics' appointments to full professorship through the inaugural lecture series.

The VC Inaugural Lectures will be held in abeyance during this period. At the same time, the number of lectures which can be accommodated in the VC’s Inaugural Lecture series is limited. These inaugural lectures are a central part of the university’s academic project, and provide a platform for professors who were appointed in the preceding five years to present the body of research that they have been focusing on during their careers.

UCT failed to bargain with Employees' Union, says CCMA (News24)

Wage negotiations between the University of Cape Town and one of the largest representative unions - the UCT Employees' Union - will start soon.

The dispute was then referred to the CCMA. The union told the CCMA that UCT had acted in "bad faith", that it had "frustrated the dispute resolution procedure", and had "failed to schedule the dispute resolution hearing". Chetty said the union supported suggestions by the CCMA that a single bargaining unit be formed to include the "lowest pay class to the highest pay class" at the university. These are known as professional, administrative and support service (PASS) staff. Union representative Samuel Chetty said the UCT Employees' Union had already sent its bargaining demands to the university, which included salary increases and non-salary demands. The UCT Employees' Union had said that management had been refusing to come to the bargaining table over several issues related to salary increases.
