WiFi Woes and Royal Appointments: What’s Buzzing on December 16!

BU-WiFi - Climate Change - Community Engagement - Crown Nominations Commission - Eastern Athletics - IT Maintenance - Lord Evans of Weardale - Refugee Situation - UNHCR

From WiFi outages to royal commissions, December 16 has it all! Find out what's happening in the world this week!

December 16th is gearing up to be an eventful day, blending crucial IT maintenance with some royal shenanigans! For anyone on campus looking to connect online, take note that essential IT maintenance will be taking place on this day, causing disruptions to BU-WiFi wireless connectivity. So, whether you're deep into a binge-watch or working on your final project, be prepared to disconnect from the digital world and find some less-than-modern methods to get your work done!

On a more regal note, it seems the Prime Minister has been busy appointing The Lord Evans of Weardale as the Chairman of the Crown Nominations Commission for Canterbury. This role plays a significant part in the appointment of bishops within the Church of England, ensuring the right candidates are selected for these quite holy roles. Let’s hope he brings a fresh perspective to the table – maybe he’ll even bless the outdated WiFi connections on campus!

In sports, we have the Eastern Eagles who are back at it this week after the stressful finals season. Women’s basketball is set to take center stage at Reese Court, showcasing their skills and talent for the fans. It’s always thrilling to watch these athletes give it their all, and we can't wait to cheer them on! Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just there for the snacks, it’s bound to be a thrilling week ahead.

In the world outside our shores, UNHCR updates from Brazil and Romania highlight the ongoing situation faced by refugees. Climate change, environmental challenges, and the ongoing support mechanisms show just how crucial this time is for vulnerable populations. These reports serve as a reminder of the global challenges we face, even as we juggle our IT problems and local sports highlights. Remember, even on the most mundane days, there’s always something happening in the background!

Fun fact: Did you know that the Church of England has had its own version of reality TV with ‘The Big Questions’ which discusses serious topics in the community? And speaking of community, Stroud Brewery’s consultations bring in local voices to develop plans for the Brimscombe Port, showing that even in the tech-heavy world, maintaining local culture and engagement is key!
